Google will start removing inactive accounts starting December 31: How to save your email ID

Google has announced that it will begin deleting accountsfor users who haven't signed in in the last two years.

In May of this year, Google announced that from December 31st, accounts that were inactive for a long period of time would be deleted. The tech giant said it does this to prevent abuse by threat actors.

Google's vice president of product management, Ruth Crichelli, said such long periods of inactivity could mean that an account has been compromised. Additionally, these older accounts may not have his two-factor authentication, which could put the user's personal information at risk.

If you haven't logged into Google in the last two years, you can delete it. However, before we delete your account and data from services such as Gmail, Drive, Docs, Photos, Meet, and Calendar, we will notify you by repeatedly sending emails to your account and recovery email address.

If you delete your account, you won't be able to register new accounts using the associated Gmail address. If you want to keep an account you rarely use, just log in every two years and Google won't mark it as inactive.

Alternatively, you can send and read emails, use Google Drive, search and watch videos on YouTube, and sign in with Google on other websites.

Google advises that accounts with YouTube activity such as comments, channels, videos, etc., and accounts with balances will not be deleted. If you no longer use your Google Account, you can download all data associated with it using the "Google Takeout" service. Alternatively, you can use your company's inactive account manager to notify you if your account has been inactive for a period of time.
