How to share text and URLs from Windows PC to Android using Nearby Share.
The Nearby Share method for Windows works to seamlessly transfer files and documents from Windows to Android devices and vice versa. Thistool is mainly known for transferring files and folders, few people know that it can also be used to transfer text or links like files, photos,etc. from one device to another.
Google released Nearby Share for Windows a while ago, and while the app looks finished, it's still in beta and in development. However, it works without issue. If you've been using Neighborhood Sharing to share files, photos, videos, and more from one Android device to another, the Windows version is no different. Just open Neighbor Sharing, select a file, and select a contact to share with.
Follow these steps to share text and URLs from Windows PC to Android and vice versa.
Pre-requisites:
Download and install Nearby Share on your Windows PC Android phone version 6 or higher.
How to Send a Text or Link Using Nearby Sharing:
- Open the Nearby Sharing application on your PC.
- Navigate to the text you want to share, select it and copy it. You can also drag and drop text into the application.
- Now go back to the environment sharing app and paste it into the app.
- The app detects it as text and changes it. -- share text
- Now select the contact shown on the right panel to share.
- To do this, make sure that the "Share with Environment" feature is turned on and enabled on your phone.
- The phone or device sending the text or URL accepts it.
- When you receive a text, you can open or copy it from the notification. For links,only the Copy option is available.
